Red Blood Cells (RBCs) contain a red pigment called hemoglobin, which has a high affinity for oxygen. Hemoglobin binds with oxygen in the lungs and transports it to all the cells and tissues throughout the body. Plasma is the liquid part of blood, platelets help in clotting, and white blood cells fight infections. Therefore, RBCs are uniquely specialized for oxygen transport.
