For an electric bulb to glow, there must be a complete, unbroken path for the electric current to flow from the electric cell, through the bulb, and back to the cell. This complete path is called a closed circuit. An open circuit, broken circuit, or partially connected circuit implies a break in the path, preventing the flow of current and thus the bulb will not glow.
