Villi are tiny, finger-like projections found on the inner walls of the small intestine. Their primary role is to vastly increase the surface area available for the absorption of digested food. Each villus has a rich network of blood vessels, which efficiently absorb the digested nutrients like carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, transporting them into the bloodstream for distribution throughout the body.
