Stomata are tiny pores, primarily on plant leaves, surrounded by guard cells. They have two main roles. First, they facilitate gaseous exchange: allowing carbon dioxide to enter for photosynthesis and oxygen to exit. Second, stomata regulate transpiration, the process of releasing excess water vapor from the plant. This helps in cooling the plant and aids in the upward movement of water.
